Santa Barbara - Reality TV star "Dog" The Bounty Hunter is now going after Randy and Evi Quaid. He wants them back in Santa Barbara. Beth Chapman, Dog's wife and co-star, says they have no plans to go into Canada and bring Randy and Evi back across the border, but that doesn't mean they are safe from Dog's bite. (She spoke exclusively to KEY News on Tuesday).
Randy and Evi Quaid are wanted for a felony vandalism charge after being arrested in September, 2010 for allegedly squatting in a guest house in Montecito.
The bond company has until early November to produce the couple, or forfeit the money. Court records show Santa Barbara Bail Bonds posted $500,000 each for Randy and Evi Quaid, but then they jumped across the border into Canada.
Beth Chapman told KEY News, its the bail company that is really the one loser in this whole incident, not Randy Quaid.
"The bail company is going to eat half a million dollars on a minor crime because he's too much of a coward to come over here and stand up for a squatting charge," says Chapman.
The Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office says if a bounty hunter can convince the couple to come back to the United States, they will be arrested.
"If a bounty hunter is able to get the Quaid's back into the U.S., our warrant would attach to them"
But there is one stipulation.
"That's assuming the bounty hunter can get them back here legally," says Senior Deputy District Attorney Lee Carter.
Dog and his team says they do not plan on running the risk of breaking any international laws by crossing the border into Canada. But "Dog" has done it before. He captured convicted serial rapist and heir to the Max Factor throne, Andrew Luster in Mexico.
But according to Beth Chapman, it is not worth the risk this time around.
"You know all I'm saying to him is that you should man up, come across the border, let us help out, it's not going to be that bad, there's no Star Whacker in Santa Barbara".
